Martini bar meets health food restaurant at Lonjevity Café!

Lonjevity Superfood Fusion Café. We were curious “What is superfood fusion anyway? Our mission was simple; go find out and share our findings with you. Since we had no idea what to expect, our minds were wide open

Located on the South Trail, the restaurant presents a series of interesting contrasts. Is it a martini bar or health food restaurant? Is this a sophisticated, trendy spot or a relaxed, casual dining experience? Unrecognizable menu items or something I would really like to eat? Is this a traditionally designed interior or a new urban chic setting? Initially our heads were spinning trying to determine which. However we settled down with a glass of wine, studied the menu and began to absorb the environment.

So what is “superfood fusion? Combining high protein, low glycemic indexed foods, good oils containing high concentrations of omega-3's, whole grains, and legumes, while avoiding highly processed foods, sugar, and starches, Lonjevity has created a highly nutritious choice of menu items without the “Oh no, health food!” response of many diners. Fish, meat, salads, even pizza are all on the menu. We chose the following:

Beans and Greens:  Sweet, crisp romaine lettuce sautéed with cannellini beans, lemon, garlic & olive oil. Served with our own whole grain & flax garlic bread.  $8
Chilean Sea Bass: Sauteed Chilean sea bass topped with a jicama fennel slaw.  Accompanied by quinoa and sauteed kale and veggies. $22
Grouper:  Lentil encrusted grouper topped with red and yellow pepper coulis and served with cauliflower mash.    $19
Honey Ricotta Cheese Cake:  $4.95

The food was very well prepared and colorfully presented. As you might expect, the vegetables were brightly colored and crisp; and just shouted out “good for you!” My dish contained crisp brussel sprouts as an accompaniment. When was the last time a restaurant served brussel sprouts? I know many of you prefer to avoid them, but it was a surprisingly good rendition. Perhaps the result of superfood fusion, we were completely satiated without feeling like we overate.

Even though, Lonjevity bills itself as a superfood fusion café, in reality the fusion is more than just food! If you are looking for something different to try, something good for you and tasty at the same time, why not give Lonjevity a try?
