Ray's at Bob's is back!  Not exactly.  Now Ray's is at The Serving Spoon.

Casually elegant, a uniquely defined gourmet dining expereince, that is Ray's.

A typical Sarasota restaurant, not!  Ray's provides a unique, memorable, gourmet dining experience, in a most unusual setting.  A casual breakfast and lunch establishment, the Southside Village location of the Serving Spoon, is transformed on Friday and Saturday evenings, by the addition of white linens, candles, place settings, and smooth jazz music in the background.  Serving a 4 course Prix-Fixe Dinner for $42.00.  One's first impression might be, expensive for a place like this.  Do not let the price discourage you.  This is high end, high quality food with ample portions.  All served in an atmosphere that uniquely defines Ray's.

There are always 2-3 appetizers, entrees, and desserts from which to choose, all accompanied by a salad course.  Since the weekend menu is usually available by Tuesday or Wednesday, you can check out the offerings while making your reservatoins.

Our meal comprised of the following:

Cuban Black Bean Soup:  Classic soup of Cuba and the Carribean is made with black beans, chorizo, a vegetable mirepoix and roasted garlic slowly simmered with fresh tomatoes, chicken broth and Jamaican rum.  Served with sour cream and chives.
Savory Sicilian Tart "Blanco":  An individual tart of homemade pastry topped with mascarpone and Italian robiolo cheese, sauteed crimini and chanterelle mushrooms, extra virgin olive oil, grated pecorino romano and fresh thyme, basil and rosemary.
Salad Course:  Assorted baby field greens tossed with our unique Japanese vinaigrette dressing.
Raymond's Classic Chicken Piccata:  Tender scaloppini of chicken tenderloin quickly sauteed and served with a sauce of reduced veal and chicken stock, dry wine, fresh lemon juice, garlic, capers and a touch of European butter accompanied by parmigiano reggiano polenta and haricot verts.
Martha's Vineyard Baked Stuffed Shrimp:  One of my most popular preparations on the Vineyard.  Fresh colossal Florida shrimp stuffed with a classic casino mixture and baked until tender and golden brown.  Served with long grain coconut rice pilau and lobster saffron sauce.
Ray's Famous Warm Chocolate Mousse:  Combine the best bittersweet Belgian chocolate mousse and the best chocolate bread pudding served warm.  Topped with homemade whip cream.
Cappucino Creme Brulee:  This rich but light French custard is flavored with an espresso and coffee liqueur.  Topped with brulee sugar and served with a coffee sauce and creme chantilly.

All of our dishes were elegantly served, with ample portions (in fact we took some home), accompanied by a very good bread service, and absolutely delicous.  Ray's is not your typical restaurant.  Chef Ray Schilcher and his wife Melanie Haddock have created a casually elegant, uniquely defined, gourmet dining expereince. A SRQREVIEWS must try.
