A new type of steakhouse has emerged in Sarasota…Braza Brazilian Steakhouse…a meat lovers’ dream come true!

Cattle ranchers in South America, particularly from Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil are known as gauchos.  Historically gauchos led a nomadic life, tended cattle over broad grasslands known as pampas, and generally lived day to day off the land.  Since there was no way for the gauchos to preserve meat, whenever a cattle was butchered it was cooked over an open fire and consumed by the group.  The roots for today’s Brazilian steakhouse come from this historic “way of life.”

Braza Brazilian Steakhouse offers the traditional gaucho way of life in a well lit, nicely decorated, contemporary, downtown Sarasota restaurant.  Maintaining the roots of gaucho preparation, Braza’s gaucho chefs prepare a wide assortment of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and sausage all cooked over an open grill which is visible through a large glass window in the back of the dining area.

The dining experience at Braza is unique. Each table is given a two colored card; green on one side; red on the other.  The “gauchos” offer meats served from their skewers to your plate. As long as your card is showing the green side up, the servers will continue to offer various cuts of meat to you.  Even though the spotlight is on the meat and its preparation, the salad bar should not be overshadowed.  Offering a hot and cold buffet, there are numerous soups, salads, vegetables, pastas, rice, beans, and Brazilian side dishes all to accompany the meat service.  Pricing for the main meal at Braza is simple and straightforward; $34.99 includes the buffet, bread service and the meat service; $24.99 without the meat service.  Desserts and drinks cost extra.

Since buffet dining emphasizes the quantity of food and not necessarily quality of the food, we are not big fans. However we make an exception for Braza.  Offering a broad assortment of hot and cold salad bar options which are fresh, colorful, and well prepared, the food is plentiful and high quality.  We found the meats to be tender, juicy, and lightly seasoned; offering something for everyone’s taste.  And once again, there is as much as you can eat.  There is a good selection of beer and wine to accompany your meal.

Dining out at Braza Brazilian Steakhouse is an fun, casual, unique and filling experience. If you are looking to try something a little different from the traditional America steakhouse, then Braza should be on the top of your list.
